Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Could BOV900’s one-cubic-foot cavity meet a requirement for a dedicated Dehydrate cycle?
Yes. BOV900 is listed as a 1.0-cu-ft Pro body and its official function list and manual document Dehydrate. The BOV950 has the same two capabilities.
Explore this need in the finder →Does BOV900 offer the Pro size and drying program without requiring app-to-oven control?
Yes. BOV900 has the large Pro body and a dedicated Dehydrate preset but operates from its front-panel controls; its manual does not document remote oven control.
Explore this need in the finder →Will BOV900 meet an essential requirement for app-based remote oven control?
No. The BOV900 has local controls and no documented oven-to-app remote-control feature. The Joule BOV950 is the connected model in this family.
Explore this need in the finder →The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900 is the large, function-heavy choice in this family. Its one-cubic-foot cavity is listed for nine slices of toast, a 14-pound turkey, a 9-by-13-inch pan and a 12-cup muffin tray. It adds a dedicated Dehydrate program and a mesh basket, but the body is 21.4 inches wide and the listed weight is 38.89 pounds. It makes most sense where those extra programs and capacity solve regular cooking jobs—not as a casual upgrade for a tight counter.
Capacity and the real footprint
Breville’s published BOV900 dimensions are 21.4 inches wide, 17.3 deep and 12.7 high. The appliance weighs 38.89 pounds and draws 1,800 watts at a listed 110–120 volts. Before committing, add the instruction book’s operating clearance at both sides and overhead, the power plug and the arc of the drop-down door. A body that fits between cabinets can still fail the ventilation or access test. The manual recommends a dedicated circuit; check the model instructions for your installation and consult a qualified electrician if the circuit is uncertain. Plan to leave the oven in one stable location rather than moving it frequently.
The large cavity is a real change from the BOV860’s 0.8-cubic-foot format, but a capacity label is not a guarantee that every 9-by-13-inch dish clears the oven walls or fits with another rack. Measure the outside rim and handles of the cookware you own. Check the oven door window and rack positions before you choose a deep pan, tall roast or multiple-level batch. The BOV900’s temperature range is listed as 80–480°F, wider at the low end than the BOV860’s range.
Thirteen programs, including a drying cycle
The BOV900 lists Toast, Bagel, Broil, Bake, Roast, Warm, Pizza, Proof, Air Fry, Reheat, Cookies, Slow Cook and Dehydrate. That is broader than a basic toaster oven and relevant if you genuinely use proofing or drying, but there is still a separate setup for each task. Air Fry uses Super Convection and the supplied basket; Breville’s instructions tell the owner to spread food out rather than treat the basket as a deep fryer. For dehydrating, the manual describes low, stable heat with maximized airflow, with a default of 125°F and a timer up to 72 hours. Breville says the Pro can dehydrate on up to four trays. It is a different long-duration routine from hot air-frying, so the included mesh basket and rack arrangement matter.
The controls are on the appliance: an LCD, function selector, temperature and time dials, light and convection controls, and start/stop. The oven does not have the Joule BOV950’s Wi-Fi/phone pairing and remote control. Breville may supply recipes or guides through its app, but that should not be confused with connected control of this oven. If app-guided cooking is an essential requirement, consider the Joule BOV950; if space matters more than a Dehydrate cycle, compare the BOV860.
Included equipment and upkeep
The current US manufacturer specification lists a 13-inch pizza pan, two oven racks, a 9-by-13-inch broil rack with enamel roasting pan, and a mesh basket rack for air-frying and dehydrating. This makes the package more useful for varied jobs than a bare oven, while also creating more pieces to store and wash. Confirm the same items in the seller’s exact carton. The current selected brushed-stainless model code is BOV900BSSUSC; other listing color codes should not be assumed to change the performance, but the seller’s suffix and accessory bundle still deserve a check.
The manual says to switch the oven off, unplug it and let the machine and pieces cool fully before cleaning or moving. It calls for regular crumb-tray cleaning and warns against covering the tray or another part of the oven with foil. Use non-abrasive cleaning materials on the coated cavity and avoid the quartz heating elements. The oven’s door, tray, mesh basket and pans need enough room to cool before being put away; that storage routine is another consequence of its size.
Who benefits from the Pro?
Choose this model for repeat large batches, a higher-volume toaster-oven routine, the named Dehydrate function or a collection of oven tasks that can replace separate countertop machines. If you do not need the 1-cubic-foot cavity or its low-temperature drying cycle, the larger weight and footprint buy little for you. For the narrowest body, compare BOV680’s 15.7-inch width and unlisted cavity volume; for a middle-size option with a published 0.8-cubic-foot interior, compare BOV860. For the same listed Pro dimensions with connected remote app control and three app-only cooking modes, evaluate the BOV950 instead.
This is a document-based assessment of the US BOV900 product page and instruction book, not a cooking trial. It does not claim a measured air-fry crispness, toast uniformity, roast timing, noise level or energy saving. Fit your own pan and counter to the manual before buying, and use the BOV900-specific book for rack placement and care.
