A useful fit for

A good comparison point when a 0.8 cu ft oven, six-slice toast capacity and a dedicated Air Fry preset suit the counter and cooking routine.

The main tradeoff

It is still nearly 19 inches wide before ventilation clearance, and it has neither a dedicated Dehydrate preset nor Joule-style app control.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Could the 0.8 cu ft BOV860 meet a counter that requires the compact body class and a 20-inch maximum oven-body width?

The manufacturer lists a 0.8 cu ft capacity and an 18.9-inch body width for the selected US BOV860 finish. The manual’s operating clearance must still be added to that width.

Can this BOV860 provide an Air Fry program without requiring Wi-Fi-connected oven controls?

Yes. Air Fry is one of the 11 listed presets, and the manual describes local front-panel controls. It does not document Joule-style remote oven control.

Does the BOV860 meet an essential requirement for a dedicated Dehydrate function?

No. Its 11 named functions include Air Fry but not Dehydrate. For that requirement, compare the BOV900 or Joule BOV950, whose official model pages list a dehydrate cycle.

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer BOV860 sits between the compact-bodied BOV680 and the full-size Pro pair in this four-model Air Fry family. It keeps Air Fry among a broad set of everyday programs, but does not add the Pro models’ dedicated Dehydrate cycle or the Joule oven’s connected controls. The useful question is whether its published 0.8-cubic-foot capacity is enough for your food and whether an 18.9-inch body can live with the clearance this hot appliance requires.

What the BOV860 is built to cover

Breville lists eleven presets: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Air Fry, Reheat, Warm and Slow Cook. Toast is specified for six slices; the published capacity also includes a 13-inch pizza, a whole chicken and a nine-cup muffin tray. The nominal cavity is 0.8 cubic foot. Those are useful reference points, not proof that every six-slice load or pan will fit comfortably at once. If you regularly bake in a deep dish or need several rack levels, compare that actual dish with the large models before choosing this smaller cavity.

The standard brushed-stainless US product code on the manufacturer page is BOV860BSS1BUS1. Breville also displays other finish-specific BOV860 codes; this review describes the same BOV860 functional model, but a seller’s color or bundle should be checked against its exact suffix and box contents. The machine has a front LCD and physical dials for mode, temperature and time. Its Air Fry program uses Super Convection, a frozen-food option and a supplied basket. This is local control from the oven, not the Joule BOV950’s oven-to-app remote operation. Breville+ recipe material does not itself turn a non-connected oven into a remotely controlled one.

Counter footprint is the real compactness test

The listed body measures 18.9 inches wide, 15.9 deep and 10.9 high, and weighs 28.66 pounds. BOV680 is narrower at 15.7 inches, while the BOV900 and BOV950 are each 21.4 inches wide. The BOV860 is a middle ground, not a tiny toaster. Add the manual’s required clearance on the sides and above, allow room for the drop-down door, and keep the oven on a stable, heat-resistant counter. If the space is bounded by cabinets, the body measurement alone is not a pass: the ventilation space matters just as much. Breville recommends operating it on a dedicated circuit; check the manual and ask a qualified electrician if your outlet arrangement is uncertain.

At 1,800 watts and 120 volts, it is a substantial appliance load. Plan which other counter appliances share the circuit rather than assuming that every outlet is interchangeable. Its listed temperature range is 120–450°F. The manufacturer publishes a two-year limited warranty for this US configuration.

Air-fry setup and supplied pieces

The package list includes an air-fry basket, wire rack, 13-inch non-stick pizza pan, 8.25-by-12-inch broiling rack and 11-by-13-inch enamel roasting pan. The manual places Air Fry on the upper rack position and recommends spreading food in a single layer with space between pieces. That is a practical capacity limit: a crowded basket is not equivalent to a roomy batch. For fatty foods such as wings, Breville recommends using the broiling rack in the roasting pan instead of the air-fry basket, so drippings are caught. Expect to switch accessories by task, not to leave one basket in place for everything.

The 11 named functions cover common toaster-oven work without an app. The absence of a Dehydrate preset is material for people who want a low-temperature drying cycle: Air Fry should not be treated as a substitute. If dehydration and a larger cavity are essential, compare the BOV900 Air Fryer Pro. If guided multi-stage cooking and remote monitoring matter, compare the Joule BOV950.

Care, limits and who should choose it

After use, the manual directs owners to switch off and unplug the oven, allow it and its accessories to cool fully, and clean the removable crumb tray with warm soapy water before drying it completely. The cavity has a non-stick coating; use a soft damp sponge and non-abrasive cleaner, keep cleaning agents off the heating elements, and avoid metal scouring pads. Never cover the crumb tray with foil. These are small routine steps, but important in a machine that air-fries oily foods and operates at high heat.

The BOV860 is a sensible candidate when Air Fry, ordinary oven functions and a published 0.8-cubic-foot cavity align with the counter. It is not the choice for required dehydrating, remote oven control or a wide 9-by-13-inch pan. If width is the stronger constraint and the four-slice/11-inch capacities fit, the narrower BOV680 may suit better, though its cavity volume is not published. This assessment is based on Breville’s US specifications and BOV860 instruction book; it does not claim measured toast color, fan noise, cooking speed or hands-on results. Compare the measured space and food you actually prepare rather than relying on the word “compact” in the product family.
