Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster ST101 review

An earlier six-function Ninja that alternates between a two-slice upright slot toaster and a small horizontal bake-tray oven.

A useful fit for

Best for someone who wants an actual small upright toaster slot with a lever for everyday toast and bagels, plus a separate horizontal tray-oven position for a snack, small bake or reheat. It makes most sense when two slices at a time are enough and the oven position will be used for compact portions.

The main tradeoff

This is not a six-slice flatbed oven or an air fryer. Its two-slice toaster and tray-oven functions occupy different orientations and cannot run simultaneously. It has no documented Air Fry, Dehydrate, convection control, food probe, separate oven zones or cubic-foot capacity. The dimensions are listed by length/width/height but not by safe countertop axis across both orientations, and its manual demands substantial clear space; check both positions before choosing it.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can ST101 meet a need for a real lever-operated toast slot as well as an oven position when earlier US models are allowed?

Yes. Its exact page lists Toast, Bagel and Defrost in the upright toaster position, plus Bake, Broil and Reheat in the horizontal tray oven. It serves those tasks in turn, not at the same time.

Can ST101 still match when a shopper also requires two separately controlled cooking zones?

No. The ST101 is one appliance with two alternative orientations, not a two-zone oven. That combination is deliberately not treated as a fit.

Does the ST101 suit a shopper who needs Air Fry as well as upright slot toasting?

No. Its six listed programs are Toast, Bagel, Defrost, Bake, Broil and Reheat; Air Fry is not listed. A Ninja SP151 has an Air Fry program but uses a horizontal flatbed oven rather than this lever-operated slot-toaster arrangement.

The Ninja Foodi ST101 combines a small toaster and oven in one body. Upright, it uses a lever and slot for bread; laid down with the lever locked, it accepts a bake tray. This is not a flatbed oven with a toast button, and the two positions cannot be used at once.

Two kinds of toast-and-oven routine

The exact US ST101 listing names six functions: Toast, Bagel and Defrost in toaster mode, then Bake, Broil and Reheat in the oven position. The maker says it handles up to two thick slices of bread. That makes it a practical fit for one or two servings of toast, bagels or frozen bread, followed by a small tray meal or snack. Seven shade settings let the toaster functions be adjusted separately from oven time and temperature.

When switched to oven position, the ST101 uses its included bake tray. The listing's food examples include 16 chicken nuggets, an 8-inch open-face sandwich or two full-size pizza bagels. Those are examples from the manufacturer, not proof that a particular pan, sandwich or food arrangement will fit. The guide sets Bake between 250°F and 400°F, with a cook time of up to 45 minutes; Broil runs at the high 400°F setting and its time tops out at 10 minutes. Reheat uses an adjustable 250–350°F range. There is no cubic-foot capacity figure to compare against a conventional oven.

The ST101 suits snacks more than family-size oven loads: toast breakfast, flip down for a tray snack or reheat, then return it upright. Each job requires changing the body position. For oven cooking, the bake tray must be fully inserted; removing it to check food pauses the timer. This remains one chamber, not independent ovens.

Where it differs from a flatbed toaster oven

A conventional flatbed toaster oven uses one horizontal opening for both toast and baking. The ST101 instead gives bread and bagels a raised, lever-operated slot position, then rotates to a short horizontal oven cavity. A shopper who wants the familiar pop-up-toaster action plus an oven function in one appliance may prefer this arrangement. Someone who wants several slices at once, a pizza-sized flatbed or a roomy cavity should compare models designed around horizontal oven capacity instead.

In Ninja's range, the SP151 is another flip design, but it cooks horizontally and adds Air Fry and Dehydrate, with up to six toast slices listed. ST101 is toaster-first: two slices in a slot, no listed Air Fry, Dehydrate, convection control, probe, app control or separate zones. Choose SP151 if airflow modes matter, or DCT601 if you need two oven schedules; neither is simply a larger ST101. A basket or extra cavity also means a different cleanup routine.

Measure both positions and plan the outlet

SharkNinja gives dimensions of 16.54 inches long by 6.7 inches wide by 8.42 inches high. The listing does not label a countertop width and depth for both orientations, so do not use those numbers as a ready-made fit diagram. Check the ST101 in its vertical toast position and horizontal oven position, and allow room to pull out the tray, reach the controls and route the 28-inch cord without stretching it. The unit is rated at 1,500 watts and 120 volts, 60 Hz.

Placement is especially important for an appliance that changes position. The ST100-series guide requires at least 10 inches of space above and 4 inches on all sides for air circulation, and says not to operate it under cabinets or inside an enclosed space. It also calls for a level, clean, dry countertop; the vents must remain clear. The short power cord is not meant to reach through an extension cord. Before moving or flipping it for storage, switch it off and allow it to cool completely. A crowded counter with low cabinets may be a poor match even if the body appears small.

Setup and care are simple but not hands-off

For first use, the guide recommends washing the bake tray, then an empty Bake run at 400°F for 10 minutes in a ventilated area. The rear crumb tray slides out partway but is not fully removable. Hand-wash the bake tray, wipe the body and never immerse the unit. Unplug and let it cool fully before cleaning. SharkNinja separately lists replacement bake tray 138KY100 as compatible; confirm that tray and the crumb tray are present in any used package.

The official product page showed the ST101 out of stock when checked on October 23, 2026. That status does not establish permanent discontinuation, nor does it tell you whether a particular marketplace seller has a complete unit. If considering a used example, confirm that it is model ST101, that the bake tray and crumb tray are present and undamaged, and that the hinge, toaster lever and power cord are in good condition.

Who should consider it?

The ST101 suits someone who values two-slice slot toasting and wants oven-style Bake, Broil and Reheat in the same compact appliance. Its defining choice in the finder is the slot-toaster mode; selecting it rules out models that only toast on a flat oven rack. It is not the answer when Air Fry, Dehydrate, a large batch, probe-guided cooking or simultaneous zones are essential. If those matter, compare the separate reviews for the Ninja SP151, the two-zone DCT601 or a larger Breville Smart Oven. The ST101's 6.7-inch listed width is not enough to promise counter fit because its usable footprint changes when the unit is flipped.

No independent toast-evenness, cooking-speed, temperature-accuracy or durability testing is claimed. The assessment uses the exact US ST101 listing and SharkNinja-authored ST100 Series Owner's Guide, revision Mv6; only the ST101-specific listing is used for its six-function list. Included cooking pieces

The exact ST101 listing names one bake tray and one crumb tray in the box. The ST100-series guide says the bake tray is hand-wash only and the crumb tray is not fully removable.

Practical care and placement

The guide recommends an empty Bake run at 400°F for 10 minutes before first cooking, in a ventilated area. For routine care, unplug and cool fully, partly slide out the crumb tray to empty crumbs (it is not fully removable), hand-wash the bake tray and wipe the body; do not immerse the main unit. The guide calls for at least 10 inches above and 4 inches on all sides, says not to operate it under cabinets or in an enclosed space, and requires a level, dry counter with vents unobstructed.
