Hamilton Beach Toastation 2-in-1 Toaster and Oven review

A fixed-body countertop appliance with a two-slice lever-operated bread slot and one small oven cavity. Its manual selector switches between Toast and Oven, so the two uses are not simultaneous cooking zones.

A useful fit for

A plausible fit when two-slice slot toast and a few small oven jobs cover the routine, the 16.2-inch body fits with the manual's placement space, and keeping toaster and oven functions in one fixed appliance is valuable. Oven size remains unquantified in cubic feet.

The main tradeoff

The OVEN/TOAST selector switches between an upright slot toaster and a single oven cavity, so the uses cannot run simultaneously. The oven has a manual temperature dial but no published numeric range or cubic-foot capacity. The manufacturer lists no Air Fry, convection, digital cooking menu, named Keep Warm, app, probe, independent zones or oven timer for this configuration.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Toastation provide two-slice slot toast and small oven cooking while fitting within a 16.5-inch body-width limit?

Yes on the maker-listed facts: two slices in its slot and 16.2 inches of body width. Add the manual's 2–4 inches of placement space; slot and oven uses are selected one at a time.

Can the 22725 meet a three-slice minimum when lever-operated slot toasting is essential?

No. Hamilton Beach lists a two-slice bread slot. The separate oven fit example is two slices of pizza, not extra toaster-slot capacity.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the 22725 satisfy a required combination of a toaster slot and a dedicated Air Fry preset?

No. The manual documents a Toast slot and Oven mode but no Air Fry setting; a shade dial is not an Air Fry cycle.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the 22725 be confirmed to meet a 0.5-cu-ft minimum oven capacity?

No. The exact page lists two slices of pizza as an oven fit example but publishes no cubic-foot capacity, so the unknown cannot pass a hard volume minimum.

The Hamilton Beach Toastation 22725 is for a specific counter routine: make two slices of ordinary toast in an upright slot, then switch over to a compact oven for a snack or small bake. That is more useful than a generic “2-in-1” claim if you would otherwise keep a separate pop-up toaster. It is not two appliances that can run at once. The manual’s OVEN/TOAST selector chooses one use at a time, and the maker’s page says the appliance switches from toaster to oven mode.

The slot is the real distinction

The long top slot has a bread lifter and a shade dial with seven numbered settings. Hamilton Beach says the slot takes two slices, including bagels and artisan breads; the Use & Care guide provides different starting shade ranges for regular bread, English muffins, bagels, frozen bread and waffles. That gives a small household more direct control over breakfast than relying on a flat rack and a toast cycle. It is still a manual shade selection, not a sensor that guarantees the same color across different bread thicknesses, moisture levels or starting temperatures.

There are practical limits to that convenience. The manual says to remove the baking pan before using the slot and to center bread in the opening. It warns against buttered or topped bread and directs toaster pastries, fried foods and several other nonbread items to the oven instead. Do not treat the toaster slot as a faster way to heat packaged snacks: the guide explicitly says toaster pastries belong in OVEN mode. The company advertises faster, more even slot toasting than a “leading toaster oven,” but that is its own qualified comparison, not an independent test result.

A small oven, with a separate workflow

For oven cooking, move the selector to OVEN, turn the temperature dial and allow about five minutes to preheat. The manual gives recipe examples rather than a published cubic-foot capacity or a complete list of temperature limits: it suggests 450°F for a short pizza reheat and 400°F for a baked potato. The exact page describes an oven that fits two pizza slices, but it does not provide a pizza diameter. Those are useful snack-size references, not proof that a particular handled casserole or tall dish will fit. Measure cookware against the opening before relying on it.

The instructions describe two operating modes and a dial, not an oven timer or digital menu. You turn the oven temperature control to OFF when finished and unplug the appliance after use. Do not assume that the separate toast lifter, oven cavity and two rack pieces mean two cooking zones; the guide shows one oven space and one OVEN/TOAST selector. If you want to toast while baking, or need different schedules at the same time, choose a genuinely independent two-zone appliance instead.

Plan for the counter and the cleanup

The listed body is 16.2 inches wide, 8.9 inches deep and 8.1 inches high. Those are appliance dimensions, not the space needed to use it safely. Hamilton Beach’s guide says to position it 2–4 inches from a wall or other countertop object, keep the top clear, and not run it in an enclosed cabinet or storage space. Add room for the plug, opening the oven door, lifting out hot food and setting down the pan. The low body may fit below some cabinets, but that does not override the manual’s ventilation and heat warnings.

The page lists an oven rack, baking pan and slide-out crumb tray. After use, unplug the Toastation and let it cool; the guide says to hand-wash the rack, pan and crumb tray in hot soapy water, then wipe the oven interior, glass door and outside with a damp cloth. Empty the crumb tray regularly, and do not cover it with foil. To clear bread-slot crumbs, the manual says to unplug, cool, tilt and gently tap the unit rather than turning it upside down or poking with a utensil. The guide does not claim dishwasher-safe accessories.

How it compares with other small combinations

Hamilton Beach’s 31156J is the closest reviewed alternative in this library: it also keeps a toaster slot and oven in one fixed body, but is larger at 17.8 inches wide and its maker lists a 9-inch pizza, a 16.5-liter oven and Bake, Broil, Toast and Keep Warm modes. The 22725 is narrower and its manufacturer examples are two slices of slot toast and two slices of pizza; its manual supports no Keep Warm function. If you prefer a flatbed that can toast four slices and fit a 9-inch pizza rather than a separate upright slot, the reviewed 31143J is a different choice, with its own Bagel setting. Neither comparison establishes cooking performance; it clarifies what each exact control layout is designed to do.

All three examples—slot bread, pizza slices and oven cavity—describe different uses and should not be collapsed into one capacity number. The 22725 is a plausible fit when two-slice toast and a few small oven jobs are enough, the 16.2-inch body fits with its placement clearance, and you value combining those modes in one enclosure. Look elsewhere if an Air Fry or convection control, a named Keep Warm setting, a published capacity figure, a numeric oven temperature range, a larger pan, an oven timer or simultaneous cooking are essential. Those missing requirements should not be inferred from the product’s 2-in-1 name.
