A useful fit for

A standard-width countertop oven for toast, baking, pizza, convection and a dedicated Slow Cook preset; compare its 18.9-inch body with cabinet clearances.

The main tradeoff

It is not the Air Fryer Pro: no Air Fry or Dehydrate function is listed, and its body still needs substantial breathing room beyond the case.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Could BOV845 fit a body-width limit of 19 inches while providing a Slow Cook preset?

Breville lists a 18.9-inch body and a Slow Cook program among the ten presets. The manual’s 4-inch side/6-inch top clearances are additional.

Does BOV845 meet a requirement for Air Fry or Dehydrate?

No. Its ten presets include Slow Cook and convection, but not Air Fry or Dehydrate; compare BOV860 for Air Fry or BOV900/BOV950 for Dehydrate.

Is the Pro body larger than the BOV845 body?

No. BOV845 is 18.9 inches wide; it is smaller-bodied than the 21.4-inch Pro Air Fryer models, though still a full countertop oven.

The Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845 is a full-size countertop toaster oven whose most distinctive extra over the Smart Oven BOV800 is a dedicated Slow Cook preset. It has ten named functions, a convection fan and a body measuring 18.9 × 15.9 × 10.9 inches. Breville’s current US listing describes six slices of toast, a 13-inch pizza, a whole chicken and a nine-cup muffin tray as capacity references; it does not publish cubic-foot capacity. The brushed-stainless finish assessed here is listed as BOV845BSSUSC. Similar finish names are not a reason to assume a retailer’s bundle contains the same pans.

What the Pro name means here

This BOV845 should not be confused with Breville’s larger Air Fryer Pro. The BOV845 is the Smart Oven Pro: its ten presets are Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, Warm and Slow Cook. It has no dedicated Air Fry or Dehydrate setting. The fan is a separate convection control that can be used with applicable oven functions; it is not the name of an extra cooking mode. Element IQ is described as controlling power distribution to the five quartz elements. Breville says convection can reduce cooking time by up to 30 percent, but that is a manufacturer statement, not a result measured in this assessment.

The particularly useful contrast is with the nine-preset BOV800. Their published body dimensions and basic six-slice/13-inch-pizza references are alike, but the BOV845 adds Slow Cook. If that is not a job you intend to use, the BOV800 may cover the same common toast, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookie, reheat and warm work without the extra preset. Conversely, if you are looking for an oven with Air Fry, compare a different family: neither BOV845 nor BOV800 lists that mode.

Fit and accessories matter more than the name

The BOV845 is a substantial object even though its width is below 20 inches. Breville’s US manual specifies at least four inches of free space at each side and six inches above during operation. Those are operating clearances, not measurements included in the 18.9 × 15.9 × 10.9-inch case. Also account for the plug, the drop-down door, access to a hot pan and a place to set down a rack. If it must slide into a cabinet or sit hard against a backsplash, the manual’s placement instructions should decide the answer, not the body-width number alone.

The listed set includes an oven rack, a 12 × 12-inch enamel baking pan, a matching enamel broiling rack and a 13-inch nonstick pizza pan. The pan dimensions are more helpful than a generic “fits a 13-inch pizza” label when checking the dishes already in your cupboard. Measure handles and rims too; nominal capacity is not a promise that every piece of cookware fits on every rack position. The manual gives three rack positions and program-specific guidance, so set a rack for the food and mode rather than treating the cavity as an open shelf.

Everyday controls, setup and care

The front panel keeps selection local: choose a function, set temperature and time, then start. The BOV845 manual recommends plugging the oven directly into its own circuit, and advises a 15-minute empty run in a well-ventilated area before first use. The cavity, door and exterior become hot. Let all pieces cool fully and unplug before cleaning; use the manual’s guidance for the crumb tray, coated cavity and enamel accessories. There is no reason to cover the crumb tray with foil or to improvise cleaning around the heating elements.

For small dinners, toast, reheated leftovers and a sheet of cookies, the six-slice and muffin-tray references give a realistic sense of scale. The separate Slow Cook preset is a practical distinction if you want the oven to handle a low-and-slow recipe without occupying a larger appliance. It does not make the BOV845 a programmable slow cooker with a removable pot: it remains one oven cavity with one rack setup, and food still needs an oven-safe dish suited to the task.

Who should compare another model?

Choose the BOV845 for the combination of familiar oven functions, convection and a Slow Cook preset at the standard BOV845/BOV800 footprint. Choose the BOV800 if you do not need Slow Cook and prefer its nine-function specification. The BOV650 is narrower and lighter, but its four-slice toast reference and 12-inch pizza capacity are smaller; the Mini BOV450 trims the footprint further and has an 11-inch pizza reference. If your essential need is Air Fry, consider the BOV680 or BOV860; for a dedicated Dehydrate program, compare the larger BOV900 or Joule BOV950.

This is a document-based model assessment, not a hands-on cooking test. It makes no claim about toast color consistency, actual convection speed, preheat time, noise or results with a particular roast. Read the current Breville US product page and its BOV845 instruction book for the exact current finish, included pieces and operating directions before buying or changing placement.
