Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is the Mini Smart Oven the smallest body among these classic models?
At 16 × 13.6 × 8.8 inches it is narrower, shallower and shorter than BOV650, while their listed programs are alike. Its pizza reference is 11 inches rather than 12 inches.

Neither is documented in the manual; its eight listed programs are Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies and Reheat.
Explore this need in the finder →What cooking piece comes with BOV450?
The US page lists one 10 × 10 inch enamel baking pan. Do not assume the broiling rack supplied with BOV650 is included with the Mini.
Explore this need in the finder →The Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450 is the smallest body in the classic Smart Oven group assessed here: 16 inches wide, 13.6 inches deep and 8.8 inches high. Its brushed-stainless model is listed as BOV450XL and weighs 13.36 pounds. Breville describes four slices of toast, an 11-inch pizza and eight presets: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies and Reheat. The included set lists one 10 × 10-inch enamel baking pan; unlike the Compact Smart Oven BOV650, the US product page does not list a separate broiling rack.
What the Mini does—and does not—add
This is a compact conventional oven, not an air fryer. Its manual lists the eight panel-selected functions and does not document a convection cycle, dedicated Air Fry preset or Slow Cook program. Breville’s Element IQ description applies its heating logic, but do not translate that brand term into a fan feature. If a circulating-air mode is a firm requirement, step up to a model whose manual and product page actually specify convection; if Air Fry matters, look at the BOV680 or BOV860.
The ribbed metal top is described as a plate-warming surface. It is not a ninth Warm preset and does not keep food in the oven cavity. The distinction matters if you are comparing controls: BOV800 includes a Warm program, BOV650 has the plate-warming surface but no Warm program, and BOV450 also describes that top surface separately from its eight oven functions. The Mini’s simpler controls make sense for toast, a few cookies, a small reheat or pizza—provided your dish matches the compact cavity.
Use its measurements to plan the real fit
At 16 × 13.6 × 8.8 inches, it has the smallest body among BOV450, BOV650, BOV800 and BOV845. The 11-inch pizza reference is also smaller than the 12-inch figure for BOV650 and the 13-inch figures for BOV800/BOV845. These are useful comparisons but not guarantees for every pan, since rim shape, handles and rack placement affect clearance. Measure the inside space and your cookware. Breville’s manual requires at least four inches of air space at each side and says not to operate the Mini inside an appliance enclosure; the counter opening must accommodate much more than the listed case width.
The supplied pan is 10 × 10 inches. It offers a practical baking surface but should not be confused with a 10-inch pizza stone or a promise that all square bakeware fits. The manual describes three rack positions. Choose a position and cookware that leave room for circulation and safe handling, and remember that the drop-down door needs an unobstructed path. The lower height can help under a shelf only if the required clearances and heat-safe placement remain possible; do not slide a hot oven beneath a cabinet just because its body is short.
Daily use and care
The control panel lets you choose one of the eight functions and adjust the prescribed time, temperature or toast darkness. The book recommends a dedicated circuit and a stable, heat-resistant surface. The oven exterior, door and rack become hot, so place it away from dangling cords, paper and nearby items that could touch the housing. Follow the exact BOV450 manual’s first-use instructions and let the oven cool before unplugging, removing the crumb tray or washing the included pan. Avoid abrasive tools and cleaning methods that the instruction book warns against.
Its 13.36-pound weight is lower than the BOV650’s listed 15.41 pounds and the BOV800/BOV845’s roughly 22-pound range, but moving an oven after every use still involves hot parts, a cord and a door. A stable permanent counter position is safer and more practical if you have one. Its relatively small body is valuable when counter depth or cabinet height is limited, but the manual’s lateral space and the front-door swing must be added to the footprint.
Who should move up a size?
Choose BOV450 if four slices, an 11-inch pizza, one included baking pan and eight familiar presets cover the food you actually prepare. The BOV650 adds a 12-inch pizza reference and a broiling rack at the cost of a one-inch wider, deeper and taller body. The BOV800/BOV845 add the convection control, larger listed pizza capacity and six-slice reference; the BOV845 also adds Slow Cook. Neither classic model supplies dedicated Air Fry. If a model name includes “Air Fryer Compact,” check the exact BOV number: the BOV680 is a different product with an air-fry basket and different function set.
This is a source-based review, not a test. It does not promise even toasting, a particular baking result, measured temperature accuracy or quiet operation. Consult the Breville US BOV450 page and the BOV450XL instruction book for the exact included pan and operating instructions.
