Model differences
Hamilton Beach 31418JN vs 31220 vs 31466J: nine modes or clearer controls and dimensions?
Hamilton Beach’s Sure-Crisp name covers ovens with genuinely different controls. The 31418JN is the most menu-rich of these three comparisons on paper, with nine listed modes and a manufacturer claim of dual-rack cooking. The 31220 has a digital panel and separately listed Convection and Dehydrate functions. The 31466J keeps manual dials and named Air Fry, Bake, Broil, Toast, Pizza and Warm functions. Pick by the setting or physical constraint that matters to you, not the number in the product name.
Start with the exact function you need
The 31418JN page lists Air Fry, Bake, Broil, Toast, Bagel, Pizza, Roast, Warm and Reheat. Its linked guide documents three rack positions and a temperature/function/timer dial arrangement. Air Fry uses forced hot air, but the nine-mode list does not name a separate Convection program. The 31220 lists six cooking functions—Bake, Broil, Toast, Air Fry, Dehydrate and Convection—plus four food presets under Air Fry. If a dedicated dehydration or Convection setting is essential, that distinction makes the 31220 the clearer paper fit. The 31466J page and guide name six functions: Air Fry, Bake, Broil, Toast, Pizza and Warm. Its Air Fry fan is not a separate Convection Bake mode either.
Controls and cavity routines
The 31220 uses a digital display and one rotary control. Its single cavity still runs one selected cooking function at a time; a digital interface does not create separate zones. The 31418JN and 31466J use dial controls. The 31418JN maker page promotes two-rack cooking, but its directly linked guide explains three rack positions without a separate two-level timing procedure. Treat that as a manufacturer capability claim to verify if your meal depends on simultaneous racks. The 31466J product name and maker page emphasize dual-level cooking, while its six functions do not identify two independent schedules. None of these three should be selected for independent top-and-bottom temperature or timer control without explicit model-specific evidence for that feature.
Counter and cookware fit are not interchangeable claims
Hamilton Beach lists the 31220 at 15.1 inches wide, 15.4 deep and 12.71 high. The 31466J is 18.8 inches wide, 14.9 deep and 12 inches high. Those body figures help compare counter footprint, but neither is a full clearance specification. The 31418JN’s exact product page lists 14.18 inches deep, 7.2 wide and 9.06 high. That 7.2-inch width conflicts with its 12-inch-pizza example; the same copied figure appears on its category card, so it remains unresolved rather than corrected here. Leave 31418JN out of any hard width shortlist until the exact SKU’s actual exterior width is confirmed.
For cooking capacity, the maker lists 6 slices and a 12-inch pizza for the 31418JN, six slices and a 12-inch pizza for the 31220, and separate pizza/chicken/burger examples for the 31466J. No cubic-foot capacity should be inferred from slice or pan examples. Measure the specific cookware and account for the opening, handles and hot-pan landing area.
A practical choice
Shortlist the 31418JN for manual controls, its named Bagel/Roast/Reheat choices and manufacturer-stated two-rack capability—but resolve the dimension and included-rack terminology first. Prefer the 31220 if you want a documented digital Convection and Dehydrate function, or if its published 15.1-inch width fits your counter. Consider the 31466J for manual controls and Pizza/Warm options in a documented 18.8-inch body, without a separate Convection setting. Across all three, a mode label is not proof of a performance result: follow the exact manual, check food before the cycle ends and keep foods away from heating elements. The 31418JN manual says to air-fry in a single layer and warns that its cycle may take longer than a standalone air fryer.
These are source-based distinctions, not comparative cooking tests. Check the exact model code and current manufacturer manual before purchase; similarly named revisions can change the menu, package and fit information.
